Surprise Family Reunion, by Jean Borgeson – It’s no secret I love to help find information for folks working on their family trees.
This week, two gentlemen, a father and son from Indiana, were looking for some family gravestones in the Rippey Cemetery, along with any information I may have about the branch they were researching. I don’t know who was more thrilled when I was able to share information as well as a picture or two from a branch of their tree that others had shared with me, many years ago. They have roots in Jefferson, Grand Junction and Rippey, and were able to find information at the recorder’s office, as well as other tidbits that always make a tree more interesting.
I agreed to meet them at the church to take them to the cemetery and when they arrived, Myron and Maralynn Rinker were still there, and offered some cake and coffee. As the visiting continued, they mentioned they had driven through the Junction Township Cemetery, and when they mentioned the names of the older gentleman’s aunt and uncle, my ears perked up. I knew Maralynn was related to those people, too. Imagine their surprise when they discovered they were related and attended the same reunions and family events as children! They had plenty to visit about, remembering the aunts, uncles and cousins they shared!
We arrived at the cemetery just as it started to rain. I was able to take pictures of them standing by the Hiddleson/Sanderson stones they were most interested in. I told them I would share the other branches via e-mail that they belong to, and indicated there are still descendants of the same branches they are researching living around the area. I’m especially grateful to Franklin Johnson and Doris Stewart who shared their Chambers branch of their family information to me, so many, many years ago!
